Alphonso

  • Small, roundish
  • Smooth flesh. Intense reddish-orange colour
  • Intensely sweet and flavoured
  • Virtually without fibre
  • Smooth pale to deep orange peel (deepening with ripening)
  • Originally from Western India
  • Main production in Maharashtra and Gujarat
  • Highest quality in Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad and Thane districts
  • Harvested from April to early July

Chau(n)sa

  • #3
  • Exceptionally sweet
  • Soft, succulent flesh
  • Minimum of fibre
  • Thin, pale, matt yellow peel (wrinkly and slightly deeper when ripe)
  • Originally from the Rahim Yar Khan and Multan districts of Punjab in Pakistan
  • Harvested from early July to early September (Pakistan)
